050911 John L Cooke (Suzuki GSXR) and McGoo ('95Thunderbird)head north across the Clyde on the Dunoon Ferry after crossing the Irish Sea on the Larne-Troon ferry. We are heading North to The Isle of Skye, hugging the West Coast of Scotland as much as possible.
We took the afternoon of Thursday to see the seat of the 13th Duke of Argyll. What an insight into the history of Scotland and what a display, with rosettes of the Brown Bess Rifles and Bayonets, of the weapons from the Battle of Culloden. Highly recommended.
Pulled into this picnic area hidden from the road by trees. As we stopped, we saw that we were disturbing this young couple who had set out their sumptious lunch. But they beckoned us to join them and we shared our pickles, plums, tomatoes, apples and pears. They had bought lovely cheese in Oban, but they had left a baguette in the deli, which we said we would rescue, but we couldn't see the deli!
Nice Northumberlanders!
This was our evening stop where we stayed at The Pier Hotel B&B.
We had hoped to eat fish and chips in the Chip Shop next door, where Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstal had cooked for his programme, but it closed at 8pm. We were 2 minutes too late!
Next morning the weather closed in and within 30 minutes of setting off heavy rain started and continued for the rest of the day. None the less, we thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Superb Inn where we dried out and had a magnificent evening meal. Michael and his wife Karen run this clean and tidy hotel.
We will use this haven again.
Stayed here on Thursday night. Very clean and comfortable B&B with a superb breakfast, before heading to the Inverary Jail, which is a very interesting historic tourist attraction.
