Looking down at where I parked the truck.
There must be a parasite or something that causes these knots to form on trees.
There is a faint trail going out here. I thought it was made by deer, but today I saw two sets of boot prints.

This print was made today, after last night's rain.

There are pretty views all around.
On the right is Spooky Hill. That's where I'm going.
The north sides of the rocks are covered in green moss.

Flowing water in the desert.
A close up of the moss.

The view changes as I gain altitude.
Looking up Horseshoe Mountain.
The mountain on the horizon is Four Peaks.
Looking up Spooky Hill. It looks boring from this angle.
Spooky Canyon.

This looks like a dead bansai tree.

This is a strange looking rock.

Four Peaks from the top of Spooky Hill. Four Peaks got a light dusting of snow last night.
I was taking a picture of Four Peaks and didn't realize I also got two wild horses in the picture. They are in the lower left corner of the picture.

Beautiful scenery.
I have seen only two other people out here today. I have all this beauty almost all to myself.
That's Pass Mountain in the background. I learned last week that some people call it Scarface (you have to see the other side to understand why).

There is a piece of pipe stuck in the ground at the summit.
That's Horseshoe Mountain.
I wanted to show how green the moss makes the mountain look, but I don't think I captured it.
Looking down Spooky Hill.

That small rectangular hole in the distance is an abandoned mine.
Small cactus clinging to a large rock.
While standing here, I heard water dripping. There's a waterfall back there where that black streak is.
The lichen looks flourescent today.
IMG_2468
Here's the "waterfall". It's just dribbling now.

This pool is at least 2 feet deep. Desert animals will be drinking here for a while.
Another pipe in the ground.
The sun made a brief appearance at the end of the day.

It was another gloomy weekend, but I needed to get out of the house and go for a hike. I decided to take a short hike up Spooky Hill so that I could use my i-gotU to map the route I take. It had rained the night before, so there was some water around. Some of the water was even still flowing.
