I just got a new camera - the Casio Exilim EX-H20G. This camera is equipped with a new Hybrid GPS that after getting a fix from satellites, uses a 3-axis digital accelerometer with a 3-axis digital magnetic sensor to fix a position even underground and inside the building, where satellite signals are not received. This camera also has maps of very many cities all over the world, including Atlanta where I live. Of course, this camera cannot be used for navigation, but only for geo-positioning pictures and possibly for recording tracks. My first test was with the camera constantly on. After updating the firmware to version 1.01, I recorded a track and saved it. The format of the track is *.kml (Google Earth). I converted the track to *.gpx on the http://www.gpsies.com website and imported it to the @trip PC program. Next, I imported the pictures. The track looks very good, although points seem to be recorded only at an interval of 10 seconds. Frequency of recording at 2 second interval or better would be preferable. I will continue to test this amazing new tool for geo-positioned photoblog enthusiasts.
