This is a picture of where I parked. Just about anywhere you go out here has spectacular views.
My objective is the top of that ridge, where the tall saguaros are.
I can't climb up cliffs, but I see a spot over there where I might be able to get to the top of the ridge. That's where I'll go.
I started this hike late in the day. The shadow of this ridge is stretching out below.
I'm on top of the ridge now, but northwest of the saguaros. I can hike up that slope on the left of this picture. That is Pass Mountain in the background on the right.
This view is looking northwest along the ridge. Stewart Mountain is in the background on the right.
A fallen saguaro.
Another view of Pass Mountain. The shadow of Lone Mountain is stretching across the valley.
The setting sun gives everything a reddish tint.
You don't see a barrel cactus shaped like this very often.
I am almost to my goal.
The saguaros viewed from the other side. It's getting late. I can't stay up here for very long. There will be a full moon, but I prefer more light than that to descend a steep slope.
My truck is down there somewhere.

All of the yellow spots out there are palo verde trees covered with yellow flowers. Every tree buzzes loudly with the humm of hundreds of honey bees.

The desert is a beautiful place at sunset.
I stayed on the ridge until the sun was gone. Still, I had plenty of light to find my way down the steep part.

I wanted to go someplace quiet after work today, and the middle of Bulldog Canyon OHV area is usually very quiet on week days. I stopped near a ridge that I had climbed a couple of years ago and decided to go up there again, since I hadn't been there for a while. An advantage to climbing that ridge is that I would be in shade for most of the climb. I wanted to keep my camera out of the sun since it was over 100 and the camera is specified to operate only up to 105. The heat probably makes the pictures noisier looking.
