[EN] Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site commemorates important events during the beginning of integration of schools in the United States. When in 1954 the Supreme Court of the United States ordered integration of schools, governor and opponents of integration used Arkansas National Guard to prevent nine black students to enter this school. President Eisenhower tried to convince the Governor of Arkansas to follow the orders of the courts, but only federalization of the National Guard forced the Governor and opposed citizens of Little Rock to finally get out of the way. This crisis lasted from 1957 to 1961.

It was purchased by United States in 1803 as a part of the Louisiana Purchase. The town was later the first capital of Arkansas and a Confederate fort. It was later abandoned.
