There were some unusual looking clouds on the horizon.
IMG_3363
I usually get out here just before sunset. It was nice to see the area in sunlight for a change.
The route I plan to take is along that ridge. It's hard to tell from down here where I will be able to go.

IMG_3371
I'm still following the road here, and the road goes through this wash.
I found a skull. This is the first time in 6 years of hiking in the desert that I've found a skull.
IMG_3381
The Superstition Mountains in the distance.
A skunk dug up the ground around here. I know it was a skunk because I could smell it.
The route I took follows the base of this cliff uphill.
The higher I get, the more I like the view.

The summit is within view. It's higher than it looks from here.

Closer to the summit.
IMG_3397
The Superstition Mountains.
Weaver's Needle is barely visible back there.
That road is Apache Trail.

Four Peaks is barely visible on the horizon.

The Massacre Grounds trail is out there. You can't see it from here, though.

That light colored cliff is where the Massacre Grounds trail ends.
IMG_2720
The Massacre Grounds trailhead is down there.

This is the only lizard I saw today. It was in the mid 70's, but I guess it's still too cool for most lizards to be out and about.
I could see this from the summit. It looks man made.
Zoomed out some.
Zoomed out more.
A cholla ball got stuck to my arm. The spines are barbed. I carry pliers with me to pull these things out.
IMG_3432
There were a lot of shotgun shells up here. I gathered them up and took them to my trash can at home.
My truck is down there.
Fish hook pincushion cactus.
Cholla skeletons are pretty.
IMG_3439
Another view of Weaver's Needle.
A deformed barrell cactus.
The view was beautiful from up there.

IMG_3454
I saw something shiny in the distance. Even when zoomed in all the way, I couldn't tell what it was. I had to go over there and check it out.
It turns out that it is a stake marking a mining claim.

I get to the summit, I used that notch in the middle.
The route back down. If I had not come up this way, I would not choose it as a route down. From here you cannot see how you will get to the bottom.
IMG_3484
IMG_3485
I made my ascent and descent along there.
This looks like somebody's lawn.
IMG_3489
This saguaro had a hole shot through it.
Same saguaro, different exposure.
Bird nest in a saguaro skeleton.
I'll get back to the truck at about sunset.
I've been by here several times but didn't notice this arm had broken off of that saguaro and rolled down the hill.

It was a beautiful day, and I got an early start so I would be able to get to the top of this hill (assuming I could find a suitable route).
